Japanese pastries don’t always have the most interesting tastes and flavors (but as a Frenchman, I probably have higher standards than average). However, they definitely have the best looks: The chrysanthemum is the somewhat official flower of Japan (well, it’s at least the emperor’s seal). Goldfish and koi carp are also important fixtures in the country. I almost felt bad eating them.
